Attorney Julie Jo Adams

About Me

Julie Jo Adams is an experienced attorney, practicing primarily in the areas of Estate Planning and Elder Law. She also advises clients as to the proper administration of trusts and estates, represents Court appointed guardians, and helps clients with their business legacy planning. In addition to her Juris Doctorate, she holds a Bacholor of Science in Professional Management, an Associate of Science in Business Management, and an Associate of Science in Computer Accounting. She also completed both a Florida Trust School and a National Trust School, and holds a non-attorney banking designation as a Certified Trust and Financial Advisor. She is currently working on her Master of Laws in Taxation, and has a strong corporate background in administering trusts, estates, and guardianships. She is quite familiar with both drafting and administering various types of trusts- including Special Needs Trusts, Irrevocable Life Insurance Trusts, Family Bank Trusts, Marital and Bypass Trusts, IRA Legacy Trusts, and Firearm Legacy Trusts. Sometimes, Attorney Adams uses trusts and business entities to add asset protection aspects to her clients' estate plans. Attorney Adams helps clients qualify for Medicaid, when their income is too high to be eligible, but too low to pay for long term care. She also has the know-how to help clients who have been self paying for long term care and are nearing the end of their resources, qualify for Medicaid, while preserving what resources are left to provide for those special needs that Medicaid will not accommodate. Attorney Adams not only helps with last minute crisis planning, but also with long term care pre-planning. She helps her clients qualify and navigate the complex Medicaid application process, and is also a VA accredited attorney. Attorney Adams lived and worked in Europe and in the western United States for many years, experiencing other cultures and life as a military spouse. She has a keen understanding of many life challenges that especially affect our Veterans and their families. Growing up in Central Florida with Baby Boomers as parents, followed by raising two children to be fine adults, has afforded her considerable insight into the needs of Central Florida families in most types of socieconomic circumstances. While most of Attorney Adams' clients are middle class, affluent, or wealthy, she believes in giving back to her community. Her past pro bono work includes serving as a past Chair of the Student Education and Admissions to the Bar Committee (a standing committee of the Florida Bar); Neighborhood Chair for Girl Scouts in Nuremburg, Hohenfels, and Regensburg, Germany; Girl Scouts Leader in Florida; Teen Court volunteer in Orange County; A Gift For Teaching Volunteer in Orange County; Habitat for Humanity volunteer; hospital volunteer in a Brain Injury Rehabilitation Unit; and Justice Teaching Program volunteer teacher. Her present pro bono activities include working a few assigned cases from the Orange County Legal Aid Society and teaching a Teen Parent Class at a local high school. Additionally, Attorney Adams was recently elected Chair of the Orange County Bar Association's Elder Law Committee to begin her service in summer 2013. She is excited about chairing this benevolent Elder Law Committee, which is dedicated to serving the senior community through outreach educational seminars and keeping tabs on Florida legislation affecting our senior population, and to the continuing legal education of practicing elder law attorneys -especially those new to the field. She also is a member of the Real Property, Probate & Trust and Elder Law Sections of the Florida Bar, the Central Florida Estate Planning Council, and Mid Florida Estate Planning Council.
